Industry Visits:
  • Intuitive Surgical Open House
On October 5th 2019, members of our team visited the Intuitive campus in Sunnyvale for their annual Robotics Open House event. Our team won an engineering challenge, then received a presentation and tour of the office and lab space. Finally, our members got to experiment with the Da Vinci surgical robot system. This was a valuable experience, and great exposure to uses of robotics in industry. We attend this event every year.

  • Oracle Presentation
Members of our FRC team visited the Oracle offices in Redwood City. Our team members presented to a group of employees about our team and what we do. Then, we drove our robot from FRC Deep Space 2018-2019 and let some of the employees drive as well. This demonstration gave us experience in presenting our work, specifically to a group of professionals. We loved visiting the Oracle campus and learning about the applications of software in their business.
  • Denali Therapeutics
In collaboration with Aragon Biotech and the College and Career Counseling Center, some robotics students got the opportunity to visit Denali Therapeutics in South San Francisco. We were shown a presentation, toured the lab spaces, and asked questions. We saw robots in use in the Biotech labs, which was an application of robotics many of us had never seen before.

What is our Outreach Robot?
  • This robot was originally created for the 2017-2018 FTC Season, FIRST Relic Recovery
  • After the season ended, we kept this robot in working condition so we could use it for Outreach
  • We added stickers to the side panel, made a “Go Dons” flag, and changed the battery mount
  • We have now kept this robot for about two years!

Why do we have an Outreach Robot?
  • Having a specific robot set aside for Outreach ensures we always have a functional robot ready to drive whenever we have an event
  • This specific robot works well as our Outreach robot because it is:
    • Light (only about 15lbs) and easy to transport
    • Simple controls make it easy to drive for kids and adults alike
    • Easy to repair, sturdy and durable (it has lasted almost two years!)
    • Like our team, this bot has a lot of ARAGON SPIRIT!

We are fortunate to have enough resources available to be able to keep a whole robot assembled through multiple seasons. If you cannot set aside a robot for Outreach, we recommend at least keeping robots through the offseason for use in Outreach events.
